The Carents Room is part of a wider global neighbourhood of individuals and organisations who recognise the challenges of ageing and want to make things better.   Amongst these is the United Nations and World Health Organisation – they provide global leadership, encouraging action at a national level.  In 2021 they launched a healthy ageing initiative – the UN decade of healthy ageing. The initiative is based around priorities which are shared by countries across the globe regardless of differences in national geography, economy, people or politics. These shared priorities are summed up by the hashtag #addinglifetoyears.

The UN decade of healthy ageing was launched to improve the lives of older people and their families and communities by prompting action and changing the way think about age and ageing.

The decade focuses on four key areas:

  • Age friendly environments
  • Combatting ageism
  • Integrated care
  • Longterm care

The longterm care strategy recognises the importance of carents and other carers, and the need to provide more online resources to support them.
