Baroness Louise Casey is leading an independent commission that could reshape how adult social care is funded, delivered, and experienced for decades to come. It's the most significant opportunity for real reform since the welfare state was created, and the clock is ticking.
The Casey Commission has been asked by the government to design a plan for a new national care service. Its first recommendations are due in 2026, with a final report by 2028. Those recommendations will be shaped, in part, by the evidence gathered now.
That means the experiences of people like you need to be part of the picture.
Why this matters to the Carents community
Adult social care affects millions of families. But too often, the voices that shape policy are those of professionals, providers, and commissioners, not the families doing the daily work of supporting a relative who needs care.
You know what it's like to spend hours navigating a system that feels designed to confuse. You know the cost, whether it’s financial, emotional, or practical, of picking up the gaps. You know what a good day looks like, and what a bad one looks like. And you know better than anyone what needs to change.
The Casey Commission has specifically said its recommendations should give carers and families more power in the system. But that can only happen if they hear from you.
How Carents is getting involved
We're compiling a community report to submit directly to the Casey Commission. This document will bring together the real, lived experiences of people supporting elderly parents across the UK.
To build that report, we need your input. Your responses will be anonymised, compiled and submitted as part of Carents' formal evidence to the commission. You don't need to be an expert. You just need to share your experience.
What happens next
Every response we receive will inform the Carents report. We'll publish that report when it's submitted, so you'll be able to see your voice reflected in the final document.
This is a rare window. The commission is gathering evidence now, and once that phase closes, the opportunity to shape its recommendations narrows significantly. Please take a few minutes to share your experience and if you know someone else who would benefit from having their voice heard, please share this with them too.
