How much does legal planning cost?
Sorting out legal documents for an ageing parent is something most carents know needs to happen: a lasting power of attorney, a will, or both. The difficulty is often not knowing where to start, or what it will cost.
This calculator gives you an estimate before you speak to anyone. Choose the documents that apply to your situation and it will show you a total, including VAT and any official fees. It covers wills, lasting powers of attorney and probate.
About the Carents Room rates
Muckle LLP is a North East law firm with a private client team that works with families navigating the legal side of ageing. Carents works with Muckle because they understand the pressures carents can find themselves in and have set up a dedicated service, the Carents Room, with preferential rates for Carents members.
The figures in this calculator reflect those rates. When you contact Muckle, mention Carents to make sure you receive them.

This is an estimate, not a quote
Muckle will confirm the exact fee when they speak to you. For wills and lasting powers of attorney, the estimate assumes straightforward instructions. If your situation involves jointly owned property, business interests, or questions about mental capacity, the fee may differ. Muckle will advise you when you are in touch.
What about probate?
The calculator covers the grant of probate only: applying to the Probate Registry for the legal authority to deal with an estate. If you need someone to handle the full administration of an estate after a death (collecting in assets, settling debts, and distributing what remains to beneficiaries), that is a more involved piece of work. Muckle can talk you through what it entails and give you an indication of costs.
What to do next
Once you have your estimate, you can contact Muckle directly through their Carents Room page to discuss your situation and confirm a fee.
